Any modern laptop will work quickly. If you want to advance that performance...

More RAM
but more importantly...
Get a SSD harddrive, all of those programs are stored on and load FROM your harddrive. The faster it loads, the faster you get into the system to use.

Be really careful. Not all Toshiba laptop chargers are compatible with one another. Be sure to read its output voltage before use. A laptop charger with a low voltage would not harm your laptop. However, if you are using a laptop charger that is higher than your laptop's original voltage, there are chances that it would overheat your laptop.

Make sure you check that both laptops / chargers have the same output voltage before use. You would not want the charger to burn up your entire laptop. If you are looking to buy a genuine manufacture compatible laptop charger, though, I would personally suggest getting one from http://www.topmicrousa.com
They are very reliable sellers and the price is reasonable as well. You don't have to spend over $ 80 buying a laptop charger from Toshiba. They currently have all laptop chargers on sale now and are giving out free lifetime warranty and free shipping.

Again, not all laptop chargers are compatible with one another even if they are from the same brand!

Hope this helps! Best of luck.

Launching programs is a function of your processor and available RAM - assuming you have 3GB or more of RAM, you will notice a "snappier" launch of your programs with every 20GHz improvement in the processor clockspeed. If you are running only 2GB of RAM, you will notice a difference going to 3GB or 4GB of RAM.

Web pages are more a function of your internet connection than your processor - if you honestly want the best quality, run your machine connected directly to the router instead of wirelessly. Your downloads will be 2-3X as fast.

Have never used a Vaio.

NO!!!!!!! Don't risk it unless you're sure. Even if the plug goes in, the power wattage may be different. If it's wrong, it may fry your motherboard and just like that, your laptop is dead.

If you go to this site and scroll down the page, you will see several very reasonably priced laptop cooling fans/pads.
http://www.geeks.com/products_sc.asp?cat=606
I have shopped here before without a problem. Their return policy is excellent should an item not work to your satisfaction.
As far as the on-board fan goes, get some compressed air and blow it, and all of your ports out.
Kind of angle the air stream so as to not blow any more gunk inside than necessary.
